An octopus narrator should not work this well. Tender, funny and quietly devastating. Marcellus deserves every award there is. The kind of book you press into a friend’s hands.

Marcellus is my favourite narrator of the last few years.

Rocky is the best friend in all of fiction and I will not be taking questions. Funny, nerdy and surprisingly moving. Science has never been this much fun.

Beautifully written, but the middle dragged for me. The ending more than made up for it, though, and I’m still thinking about Sam and Sadie.

Miller turns a footnote of myth into a whole life. The prose glows, and Circe’s slow, stubborn becoming stayed with me for days.

Hard to read in places, impossible to put down. A reminder that learning can be both a rescue and a reckoning.
